A penalty shootout for two, on two phones. You take turns: the striker swipes on the ball to shoot (where the swipe goes, how fast, and how it bends decide the corner, the power and the curl), and the goalkeeper slides along the line with the arrows, then taps an arrow to dive as the ball flies. A hard shot is harder to save but more likely to miss the target. Five kicks each, then sudden death. Every kick plays in 3D on both phones, with a slow replay.

How to play Penalty Shootout

Goal

  • Score more penalties than the other player.

How it works

  • You take turns as striker and goalkeeper. Five kicks each by default, three in a quick game.
  • Striker: swipe from the ball towards the goal. Where the swipe ends is where you aim.
  • Swipe fast for a hard shot: harder to save, but it strays further, sometimes wide or over.
  • Swipe in a curve to curl the ball. A slow, steep swipe chips it.

In goal

  • Keeper: hold the arrows to slide along the line while the striker aims. They can see you.
  • Once the ball is struck, tap an arrow to dive that way, or Dive to jump straight up. Too early or too late and the ball goes by.
  • The keeper never sees the aim: only the run-up, then the ball.

Winning

  • The shootout stops as soon as one player can't catch up.
  • Level after the regular kicks: sudden death, one kick each until one scores and the other doesn't.
  • A slow connection is made up for, up to 150 ms. If a player leaves, the other wins.

Questions and answers

How many people can play?
Exactly 2: one striker and one goalkeeper at a time, swapping after every kick. Everyone else can watch on the shared screen.
Do we need to be in the same place?
No. Two phones are enough, even far apart. The game makes up for a slow connection (up to 150 ms) so the keeper sees the whole shot. On a very slow connection, Wi-Fi helps.
Can the keeper see where I aim?
No. Your swipe stays on your phone until the ball is struck. The keeper sees the run-up, then the ball coming, like a real keeper.
How do I curl the ball?
Swipe in a curve. The ball swings out the way your swipe bends and comes back to where it ends. A slow, steep swipe chips it softly down the middle.
