Sea Battle
Hide your ships on your phone, then take turns firing at your friend's sea until one fleet sinks.
2 players5-10 min
Best with a TV

The paper-and-pencil classic for two. Each player hides a fleet on their own phone: four ships on an 8 by 8 sea for a quick game, or five on 10 by 10 for the classic one. Then you take turns calling a cell, like F5, and firing at the other sea: a miss, a hit, or a sinking when you hit a ship's last cell. By default a hit lets you fire again. Sink the whole other fleet first to win. Nobody can peek: the ships are on the server and your phone, not on the shared screen.
How to play Sea Battle
Goal
- Sink all of the other player's ships before they sink yours.
Your fleet
- Each player has a sea: 8 by 8 cells in a quick game (rows A to H, columns 1 to 8), 10 by 10 in a classic one (rows A to J, columns 1 to 10).
- The fleet: Cruiser (4 cells), Destroyer (3), Submarine (3) and Patrol boat (2). A classic game adds a Carrier (5).
- Place each ship in a straight line, across or down, on your own phone. Ships may touch but not overlap. Shuffle places them all at random.
- Tap Ready when your fleet is set. When the placing time runs out, missing ships are placed at random.
How it works
- In turn, tap a cell of the other sea and fire.
- Every shot is a miss, a hit, or sinks a ship when it hits its last cell. Everyone sees the result and which ship sank.
- By default a hit lets you fire again; a miss passes the turn. The host can choose one shot per turn instead.
- A sunk ship shows on both screens. Ships that are still afloat stay hidden.
- The first to sink the whole other fleet wins. If a player leaves, the other one wins.
Good to know
- Shot timer (30 seconds by default): when it runs out, the game fires at a random cell for the player.
- Your ships are only on your phone and the server. Both fleets are shown when the game ends.

Questions and answers
How many people can play?
Exactly 2. Everyone else in the room can watch both seas on the shared screen.
Can the other player see my ships?
No. Your fleet is only on your phone. The shared screen and the other phone see your shots, hits and sunk ships, never where the rest of your ships are. Both fleets are shown when the game ends.
Do I get another shot after a hit?
By default, yes, the way it is usually played in Vietnam. The host can switch to the classic rule of one shot per turn.
Do we need the shared screen?
No. Each phone shows the other sea to fire at and a small map of your own. A shared screen lets the room watch both seas and hear every shot called out.
