Free Jackbox-style games: play on phones, no install
How free, browser-based party games compare with paid party packs, and when each fits.
Jackbox Games made a format many people love: the game runs on one big screen and everyone plays on their phone. If you like that format but want something free that runs entirely in the browser, GatherPlay works the same way.
GatherPlay is not affiliated with Jackbox Games. Jackbox Party Packs are paid games that the host runs on a console, PC or streaming device; players join from their phones. They have a large catalogue of polished games and are well worth buying if that fits your group.
How GatherPlay is different
- Free to play, with no purchase or account.
- Nothing to install for anyone. The host opens a web page on any screen; players open a web page on their phones.
- Each phone picks its own language, English or Vietnamese today.
- A smaller catalogue for now: Werewolf, Trivia, Secret Code, Undercover, Last Card and Ludo, with more games on the way.
When a free browser game is the better fit
- You are at someone else's place and the TV has a browser but no game console.
- Your group changes every week and you do not want to ask everyone to buy or install anything.
- You want a classic hidden-role game like Werewolf without a person sitting out as the moderator.
Getting started
- Open GatherPlay on the TV or a laptop and host a game.
- Everyone scans the QR code on the screen with their phone camera.
- Pick a game and press start.
