Party games you play on a TV with your phones

How phone-controlled party games work, what you need, and which games fit which group.

The best party games put everyone's attention in the same place. A shared screen does that: a TV or laptop shows the question, the vote or the big reveal, and every player answers on their own phone. Nobody hunts for a controller, nobody reads tiny text across the room, and secrets stay in your pocket.

What you need

  • One screen everyone can see: a smart TV browser, a laptop plugged into the TV, or a laptop on the table.
  • One phone per player, with a browser. No app to install.
  • A room code. The host creates a room, the screen shows a code and a QR code, and everyone joins in seconds.

How it works in GatherPlay

  1. Open GatherPlay on the screen everyone can see and host a game.
  2. Players scan the QR code or type the room code on their phones.
  3. Pick a game and start. The screen shows the shared moments; each phone is a controller that keeps its owner's secrets.

Each phone can use its own language. Right now that is English or Vietnamese, so a mixed group can play the same game.

Which game for which group

Werewolf: for groups who like to talk

Hidden roles, accusations and bluffing for 5 to 15 players. The shared screen runs the night, so nobody has to sit out as the moderator. Read how to play Werewolf or go straight to the Werewolf game page.

Trivia: for any group, any mood

Quick questions on the screen, four answers on every phone, and points for being fast as well as right. It works for 2 to 20 players and is a good warm-up while people arrive. See the Trivia game page.

Secret Code: for groups who like a clever clue

Two teams, 25 pictures and one-word clues from a clue giver who knows the hidden key. It suits 4 to 20 players who enjoy arguing over what a clue really meant. Read how to play Secret Code.

Tips for a good game night

  • Put the screen where everyone can see it without turning around.
  • Start with a short Trivia game while people join, then switch to Werewolf once the group is settled.
  • Turn the TV volume up a little. The screen can read questions and moments aloud.
  • Keep phones charged. A phone that goes to sleep picks the game up again as soon as it is unlocked.
  • Someone needs a minute? Anyone in the game can tap Pause at the top of their phone, and anyone can resume. Timers wait, and every screen is covered so nobody peeks.

Can we play remotely?

Yes. Start a Discord or Google Meet call, and one person shares the game screen's browser tab on it, with its sound. Everyone else joins the room on their own phone with the code, just as they would in the same room. Each game guide has a few tips for playing apart.
